The new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser has been unveiled. Painfully, they replaced the 5.7L V8 with a more Prado TX type 2.4L four cylinder engine. Though it comes turbocharged, even at entry level...it just does not do justice to the big space frame of this rig. Blame it on the race for fuel efficiency towards towards environmental sustainability, etc. I also don't like the bland look of the tailgate.
One positive is that the price of the entry level drops to about $50k as against about $90k when last it was sold in the US. At this price level, expect a lot of plasticky interior bits. You'll just be hearing kpa kpa kpa from the vibration of cup holders, interior storage and even contact of your fingers with any panel. The Lexus GX460 suffers this "predicament". As they say, Better soup na money kill am. You get what you pay for.
From the look of the new design, which goes back to its late 60s/70s J55 looks and the FJ cruiser, this speaks more to a driver's car than "owners corner". Our government officials won't like it. 😁
